DeltaRail
ON OPERATIONS, ON TRACK AND ON TRAIN
eZine | December 2011
As we approach the end of 2011 we look back at some recent news from our highly successful signalling business.

Our news includes the contract win for the Slough recontrol project, and the delivery of the IECC modifications at Marylebone that enabled the successful completion of the Chiltern Evergreen project.

Three of the four projects recognised at the National Rail awards involved a significant DeltaRail contribution, and we have recently added a further eight recruits to our graduate signalling training scheme.

Our Twitter following continues to grow. Why not add us to your list of followed Tweeters to receive regular information about project wins and other news? Our competition to win a voucher for £100 of wine is still open.

And finally, as the festive season is upon us the Directors and Staff at DeltaRail would like to wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and a Joyful New Year.

NETWORK RAIL RECOGNISES DELTARAIL 'BEST PROJECTS' AT NATIONAL RAIL AWARDS

DeltaRail was involved in three of the four projects recognised in the “Best Project” category at Rail Magazine's prestigious National Rail Awards held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The North London Railway Infrastructure Project won Best Project for the team of TfL, Network Rail, Atkins, Carillion and DeltaRail.

The highly commended projects included the Reading Christmas Works 2010-11 (of which DeltaRail's Reading IECC re-control project was part) and the Airdrie to Bathgate Rail Link Project (with an update to the Waverley IECC).

The Reading commendation was welcomed by Network Rail programme director Robbie Burns who said "Network Rail engineers and our contractors delivered to the highest standards, working round the clock through freezing conditions to get the job done on schedule".

EIGHT MORE RECRUITED TO OUR GRADUATE SIGNALLING TRAINING PROGRAMME

To support DeltaRail’s continuing success and growth in the areas of signalling control and software, we are delighted to announce that another eight graduates have been recruited this year to DeltaRail's Graduate Training Scheme.

The new recruits, who come from a range of technical disciplines and UK Universities, were selected from over 300 applicants through assessments that comprised group exercises, technical aptitude tests and interviews. They are now undergoing a formal training programme to prepare them for their first deployment within DeltaRail's project teams to work on signalling control systems and software projects.

NEW CHILTERN MAINLINE SERVICES ENABLED BY EVERGREEN IECC MODIFICATIONS AT MARYLEBONE

Chiltern Railways recently launched its new timetable between London and Birmingham following the completion of the Evergreen 3 project.

As the developer of the widely adopted Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC), DeltaRail was required to make some important changes to the signalling centre that controls the majority of the route, at Marylebone.

The Evergreen 3 project involved the provision of a third complete Solid State interlocking and re-mapping of the existing signalling boundaries between the interlockings. The project has given 100mph capability over most of the route, enabling a 90 minute fastest time between Birmingham and Marylebone.

The Marylebone IECC was opened in April 1990. There are now two IECC workstations at Marylebone with Automatic Route Setting (ARS).

The IECC is DeltaRail's market-leading signalling control system. It provides a safe, highly reliable system capable of controlling large areas of the railway network. The system provides comprehensive fault diagnostics and monitoring, plus ARS, to optimise traffic flow, even under disrupted conditions. DeltaRail's next generation technology IECC Scalable is now putting the proven functionality of the existing system onto a new software architecture to deliver additional important benefits.

SLOUGH IECC SIGNALLING RECONTROL PROJECT AWARDED TO DELTARAIL

Network Rail has awarded the Crossrail West Inner Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC) re-control project to DeltaRail. In this project the Paddington and Hayes areas will be migrated onto an IECC in the new Thames Valley Signalling Centre (TVSC). The IECC controlling the Reading station area is already located in TVSC, commissioned in December 2010.

IECC is a VDU-based signalling control system supplied by DeltaRail. It interfaces with both CBI and SSI interlockings, as well as the older-style relay interlockings. DeltaRail has an installed base of 50 IECC workstations at 13 control centres, and is the largest supplier of signalling control systems in the UK.

IECC systems were first commissioned in 1989, and Network Rail has been very pleased with the performance of the technology over the years. Ongoing improvement has extended the functionality and the size of the installed base and kept the product aligned with Network Rail’s emerging business needs. DeltaRail has recently announced the launch of the next generation product: IECC Scalable.

IECC Scalable builds upon the proven IECC functionality including its well proven Automatic Route Setting (ARS) capability. The first order for Scalable is for the Ely to Norwich Modular Signalling scheme in West Anglia, with a commissioning date in mid-2012.
